Mathew’s lasting impact on Bellrock has led our Team to conceptualise the Mathew Pain Award acknowledging excellence in an emerging leader of risk advisory and advocacy services.
Landis Michaels was unanimously selected as the recipient of the award.
“I am honoured to be selected as the inaugural Mathew Pain Award recipient and am grateful for the opportunity to visit the Lloyds market for the first time in my career. In our time as colleagues Mat left an indelible mark on both myself and the wider Bellrock family. His intellect, quick wit and extroversive personality in the office remains unmatched. I have since heard numerous anecdotes from his stellar career in the insurance industry and feel it was a privilege to have worked so closely with Mat, albeit for a brief time. His legacy lives on with this award and I will strive to exemplify the best of Mat going forward in my career in this wonderful industry.”
Landis is the Practice Leader of Bellrock ‘s Executive and Professional Risk Team. He exemplifies our core values and his ongoing pursuit of knowledge, ability to make the complex simple, and mentorship of others are traits he shares with Mat.
The Mathew Pain Award promotes the relationship that Bellrock has with the London insurance market. The recipient benefits from a two week secondment in London. The aim is to provide a practical understanding of the nuanced technical, commercial and social aspects of the “home of insurance” which Mathew had mastered in his career.
Remembering Mathew
Mat Pain was a lauded insurance and claims professional, renown across the London and Australian markets. He was well known to many at Bellrock long before he moved to Sydney in 2022, joining Bellrock as a Claims Specialist. Mat brought more than 30 years of experience to our Team, along with his razor-sharp wit and trademark humour.
Mat passed away on 24 October 2023 aged 50. He continues to be missed by all of us at Bellrock as well as his many friends, colleagues and family in the UK.
We are proud to honour Mat’s legacy with the institution of this award, ensuring his example will continue to inspire excellence in the field of risk and insurance for years to come.
